Atmospheric deposition of polychlorinated dibenzo-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the vicinity of shredding facilities in Wallonia (Belgium)

چکیده

In Belgium, 16 shredding facilities manage annually tens of thousands tons wastes from different origins (end-of-life vehicles, electronic waste, electrical transformers, …). These materials contain hazardous persistent organic pollutants such as polychlorinated dibenzo-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs), biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The process promotes the production emission dust contaminated by these compounds. objective this study is to measure concentrations PCDD/Fs, PCBs PBDEs in fallout collected vicinity 3 plants located Wallonia (French speaking part Belgium). Samples were using Owen gauges pollutant levels measured GC-MS. median deposition for ∑PCDD/Fs, ∑dioxin-like PCBs, 5 × ∑6 DIN PBDE 209 1.9 pg TEQ/m2.day, 4.4 246.5 ng/m2.day 253.8 ng/m2.day, respectively. represent high compared those observed most remote, rural urban areas studied around world similar other heavily industrialized districts. Consequently, health effects exposure among workers residents are concern.

Comparison of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the serum of hypothyroxinemic and euthyroid dogs

OBJECTIVE To determine the profile of 14 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and 23 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in serum of domestic canines and whether this was predictive of thyroid hormone status. SAMPLES Serum samples were collected from 51 client-owned dogs visiting the University of California Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital during 2012 to 2016 fo...

Uptake, translocation and metabolism of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in maize (Zea mays L.).

A hydroponic experiment was conducted in the present study to investigate and compare plant uptake, translocation and metabolism of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) of BDE-15, BDE-28 and BDE-47 and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) of PCB-15, PCB-28 and PCB-47 in maize. Root concentrations of BDE-15, BDE-28 and BDE-47 were consistently higher than PCB-15, PCB-28 and PCB-47, respectively. A...

PASSIVE AIR SAMPLING OF POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS (PCBs) AND POLYBROMINATED DIPHENYL ETHERS (PBDEs) IN BRAZILIAN TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL MOUNTAINS

Over the last decade, mountain areas have been receiving more concern about organic pollution due to atmospheric transport and deposition processes. Similar to the polar regions these areas are considered some of the most pristine and remote ecosystems worldwide. However, mountains and associated highlands are subject to the atmospheric deposition of Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS) that inclu...

Altitude dependence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in surface soil from Tibetan Plateau, China.

Remote mountain areas besides high latitude regions are beginning to receive increased attention in studying the transport and behavior of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). In the present work, surface soil samples were collected from the Tibetan Plateau, the highest plateau in the world which includes the northern slope of Mt. Qomolangma, to investigate the levels and trends of polychlorin...

Association of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) with Hyperthyroidism in Domestic Felines, Sentinels for Thyroid Hormone Disruption

BACKGROUND Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine disorder observed in domestic felines; however, its etiology is largely unknown. Two classes of persistent organic pollutants, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are known to interfere with thyroid hormone (TH) signaling and regulation; thus, it is postulated that they contribute to the etiopathogen...
